I lost forty pounds by keeping a spiral notebook of everything I ate and figuring out which meals actually kept me full. I still refuse to eat cauliflower rice, so I spend my weekends testing ways to make normal dinners fit my calorie targets.

I have a drawer full of unused kitchen gadgets meant to make vegetables taste like pasta. I bought them all three years ago when I decided I needed to lose weight immediately. They are sitting next to a pile of expensive supplements that taste like dirt.

The Math and the Coffee Weight loss is mostly just math and patience. I learned that the hard way after trying a dozen different restrictive diets that left me miserable. Once I started tracking my normal food, I realized I was drinking six hundred calories a day in iced coffee alone. I did not cut out the coffee. I just changed the milk and the syrup. That one adjustment moved the scale more than anything else I tried.

What I Actually Write Down I use this site to document the food swaps that do not feel like a punishment. I compare different brands of protein bars, test low calorie baking recipes that actually rise, and write down exactly how long a container of spinach lasts in the fridge before it goes bad. I skip the extreme detox protocols entirely. I just want a decent plate of food that fits my numbers.

Things I Still Get Wrong I am terrible at drinking water. I bought a giant jug with time markers on it, but I usually ignore it until four in the afternoon. I also still underestimate how many calories are in a handful of almonds. I have to physically weigh them on a food scale every single time or I will eat a whole cup by accident.
